All wines from the renowned Wiltinger Braune Kupp vineyard are marketed under this name – with the same care and dedication in the vineyard and cellar that is also given to the legendary Scharzhofberger Rieslings. Contrary to common assumptions, Le Gallais wines are by no means second wines, but rather Egon Müller's personal interpretation of Saar Riesling from one of the region's most attractive locations. The vineyard is idyllically situated on the Wiltingen Saar bend – awarded \"Most Beautiful Wine View 2012\" – and owes its name to the iron-rich, rust-brown slate soil. Due to the heat-retaining influence of the nearby Saar, average temperatures here are slightly higher than at Scharzhofberg. The result: a more mature, opulent aromatic spectrum with a softer acidity. These characteristics give Le Gallais wines a charming accessibility even at a young age – in contrast to the often years-long closed growths from Scharzhofberg. The basis for this noble sweet wine consists of 100% highly selected, botrytized and dried berries – a prime example of masterful precision and craftsmanship. This required nerves, as botrytis only appeared very late in the cool and frost-battered 2024 vintage, and Mr. Müller risked the entire harvest here, only to finally be rewarded with the finest raisins at the end of October.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"133\" data-end=\"603\" class=\"\"\u003eThis wine initially requires some patience in the glass. The nose currently appears closed, almost aloof, characterized by high-grade botrytis and great concentration. But then an imposing aromatic spectrum unfolds, impressing with its power and depth: Spicy notes and a rich bouquet of dried apricots, dates, raisins, and overripe mirabelle plums meet subtly exotic accents such as mango, passion fruit, and a hint of grilled pineapple. On the palate, the wine is enormously concentrated and oily, with a silky, almost creamy texture. The opulent fruitiness is balanced by a fine, supportive acidity that gives the wine structure and freshness. In the long, complex finish, nuances of orange jelly and dried fruits emerge. A monumental sweet wine that is currently still a sleeping giant. Its true greatness will probably only fully reveal itself in many years, if not decades.
