About the wine

The Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling 2024 is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding estate wines at an international top level!

The grapes for this wine come from some of the most renowned vineyard sites in the Saar region: Wiltinger Braunfels, Wiltinger Kupp, Oberemmeler Rosenberg, and Saarburger Rausch. Depending on the vintage, a small proportion of grapes from young vines from the legendary Scharzhofberg may also be included, which can add extra freshness and tension to the cuvée. All parcels are cultivated with the utmost precision and dedication. This includes targeted and gentle soil cultivation, elaborate canopy management for optimal exposure and ventilation of the grape zone, and the most restrained use of plant protection products possible. The aim is to maintain the natural balance in the vineyard and thus ensure optimal aroma development in the grapes. In autumn, the fully ripe, healthy grapes are selectively hand-picked – a labor-intensive measure that ensures the highest quality. This is followed by gentle whole-cluster pressing to preserve the fine aromas and the typical delicate acidity of Saar Rieslings. Vinification takes place in the historic Scharzhof cellar, a place with great tradition and worldwide renown. There, the musts ferment predominantly in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, but partly also in traditional Fuder barrels, which gives the wine additional depth and structure. After fermentation, it is up to cellar master Heiner Bollig to combine the various batches with sensitivity and great expertise into a harmonious site cuvée – a wine that delights year after year with its elegance, finesse, and expressiveness.

On the nose, the wine initially appears somewhat reserved, almost closed – with initial hints of herbs, cold smoke, and fresh apple. With some air, the bouquet begins to open up and increasingly unfolds depth and clarity: crystal-fresh and cool, with great precision. Fine aromas of ripe yellow fruits such as Amalfi lemon, Williams pear, and a touch of mirabelle plum emerge. Salty-herbaceous nuances and smoky notes from the slate underline the origin and give the aroma additional complexity. On the palate, the wine presents itself with a taut structure and gripping presence. The acidity currently appears steely, which gives it a certain youthful restlessness, but also freshness and energy. The mineral backbone is clearly noticeable – salty, precise, and long-lasting. Dense, juicy texture, supported by delicate residual sweetness and a sustainably complex finish. A wine with great potential that will harmonize in the coming years and gain significantly in depth and complexity with increasing maturity. Already fascinating – and with a promising future.

über: Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling 2024
"Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling 2024 is anything but an ordinary estate wine. Rather, it unites hand-picked grapes from top vineyards into a wine of exceptional quality. What comes into the glass here is not a simple blend, but a precisely balanced composition that transcends the traditional framework of an estate wine – especially when considering its impressive aging potential. Typical of Egon Müller's style, this wine also shows remarkable longevity and can easily age for 10 to 20 years, if not longer. The Scharzhof Riesling sets new standards for what a so-called "entry-level wine" can achieve – and impressively demonstrates how much depth and character the entry into the world of Egon Müller already offers."

The clear crystals in your wine are tartrate crystals. These crystals form through the crystallization of potassium bitartrate, a natural component of wine that can form during the aging process. Tartrate crystals are completely harmless and do not affect the taste or quality of the wine. You can simply let the crystals settle and pour carefully, or remove them by decanting.
