Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Kabinett trocken Mutter Anna 2024 - old school Kabi trocken Winzer Weber Style!
At the start of the Riesling harvest, the Webers traditionally pick their three dry Kabinett wines: Mutter Anna, Egon, and Munny – at must weights around 80° Oechsle. This year, however, the devastating spring frosts put a damper on their plans: due to massive frost damage in April, Egon was completely lost, so only two of the three wines could be harvested. Undoubtedly a dishearteningly low yield, but that did not change the Weber family's philosophy. Instead of appealing, fruit-driven wines, their focus is on racy, clearly structured Rieslings with freshness and character – deliberately polarizing, far from the mainstream. The winemaking process is supposedly quite simple. Tireless manual labor in the vineyard, selective hand-picking, whole cluster pressing, overnight sedimentation, followed by fermentation and aging in ancient, traditional Fuder barrels in the cool rubble stone cellar. Classic winemaking as it was 100 years ago, without technical frills or cellar aids. These wines break with conventions and are absolutely unique in their kind. Those who engage with them discover true originals with a distinctive personality.
A complex, tart-herbal fragrance opens with nuances of bitter lemon, bergamot, and lemon zest, accompanied by subtle spicy hints of fennel and juniper. Subtle floral notes and a stony-salty-mineral component add further depth to the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is remarkably lean, feather-light, and razor-sharp in its precision – bone dry yet full of tension at just 10% vol. alcohol. The juicy acidity, together with the finely mineral backbone, palpable grip, and high extract, provides structure and length. The finish is long, clear, and persistent.
Mosel Fine Wines on Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Kabinett trocken AP 1 Mutter Anna 2024:
"The 2024er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken Mutter Anna (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from 60-70-year-old vines. It displays an elegant and refined nose made of white flowers, almond cream, lime tree, lime, orange blossom, thyme, and smoke. The wine proves racy on the palate but a great level of dry extracts buffers off the acidity and adds density and intensity. The finish is very long, taut, and hugely spicy. 2028-2039" 90P

The clear crystals in your wine are tartrate crystals. These crystals form through the crystallization of potassium bitartrate, a natural component of wine that can form during the aging process. Tartrate crystals are completely harmless and do not affect the taste or quality of the wine. You can simply let the crystals settle and pour carefully, or remove them by decanting.
