About the wine

Stefan Müller's Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben 2024 proves to be a remarkably complex and multifaceted Kabinett with excellent aging potential!

The foundation for this remarkable Kabinett is formed by grapes from one of the oldest plots along the Saar. This very demanding plot with different soil types and therefore different ripening and harvest times is largely planted with self-rooted vines that are almost 100 years old. Deeply rooted in red (upper part) and grey slate soil (lower part), they optimally supply the small, highly aromatic grapes with water and nutrients even in the driest years and, with their slow growth, ensure that the grapes do not grow too quickly and burst when sufficient water is available. This was certainly the turning point in the two-part 2023 vintage, which began dry, hot and windy and then became wet and rather cool during the main growing season. Thanks to the old vines, Stefan Müller's harvest team was able to harvest perfectly ripe Riesling grapes with a moderate sugar level, which were gently pressed on the same day. The resulting must was allowed to settle overnight to separate the coarse sediment. The clear must is then spontaneously fermented with natural yeasts in the cool wooden barrel cellar. The result is a multifaceted, complex Kabinett of the highest class:

Intense yellow-fruit bouquet with aromas of grapefruit peel, ripe apple, pear, and a hint of quince, underpinned by delicate smoky slate notes. With increasing aeration, the wine opens up and reveals notes of Williams pear and pronounced herbal notes of anise and lemon balm, contributing to its complexity. On the palate, it presents itself as extremely precise, firm and demanding, with a wonderful interplay between sweetness and acidity, an excellent dense mineral structure and a long, spicy finish. This wine will develop wonderfully!

Mosel Fine Wines about Stefan Müller Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben 2024:

The 2024 Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben was made from fruit harvested from a south-facing plot with vines over 45 years old and fermented in stainless steel tanks to fruity levels of residual sugar (50 g/l). It offers a comparatively rich and aromatic nose of whipped almond cream, yellow peach, minty herbs, pear, rose, jasmine, and spices, all enveloped in residues from its spontaneous fermentation. The wine coats the palate with juicy, yellow fruits and creamy elements, leaving a fresh and slightly tart finish of spices that need integration to reach true greatness. 2032-2044 92P

über: Stefan Müller Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Old Vines 2024
"Stefan Müller's Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben 2024 presents itself this year as incredibly powerful. While the wine is often characterized by spontaneous fermentation notes in its youth, the 2023 vintage is extremely open and accessible with clear yellow fruit aromas. The wine has incredibly good grip, really pulls you in and lingers on the palate. It will certainly develop excellently, but who can resist this remarkable early form!"

The clear crystals in your wine are tartrate crystals. These crystals form through the crystallization of potassium bitartrate, a natural component of wine that can form during the aging process. Tartrate crystals are completely harmless and do not affect the taste or quality of the wine. You can simply let the crystals settle and pour carefully, or remove them by decanting.
