Unterlind Trittenheimer Apotheke Spätlese Alte Reben 2024 Magnum - Heiner Bollig & Veronika Lintner's masterpiece to date!
High above the Middle Mosel, the Trittenheimer Apotheke towers – a steep, sunny vineyard where up to 100-year-old Riesling vines thrive on the striking gray-blue Devonian slate. This VDP. GROSSE LAGE on the right bank of the Mosel is considered particularly demanding: slopes of up to 70% make all work in the vineyard pure manual labor – from tending the vines to selective harvesting in autumn. The name "Apotheke" (pharmacy) has nothing to do with healing powers, as some might assume. It likely derives from the regional dialect and may be connected to the Trier Abbey. Previously, the location was only accessible by ferry; it wasn't until the early 20th century that a bridge provided easier access. For the "Alte Reben" Spätlese, a special tank was selected from the oldest part of the Trittenheimer Apotheke. The grapes come exclusively from vines over 100 years old, including a proportion of very clean, finely dried botrytis, which adds additional depth and complexity to the selection. Heiner Bollig and his wife Veronika deliberately decided not to blend this tank with others – its individuality made blending simply too much of a waste. After gentle pressing in a traditional basket press, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts takes place in cool stainless steel tanks. The result is a Spätlese of exceptional concentration and aroma, reflecting the character of the Trittenheimer Apotheke in every sip.
The nose is highly refined and radiant, a majestic bouquet of fully ripe yellow fruits – juicy apricot, fragrant apricots, exotic papaya, and a hint of flying mango. Delicately interspersed, concentrated botrytis notes and subtle dried fruit nuances complement the profile, while orange peel, an hinted spiciness of white pepper, fine nutmeg and ginger, and the subtly smoky slate minerality provide fascinating depth and complexity. The aromatics appear on the bright side, lively yet infinitely deep – an absolutely noble expression of its vintage. On the palate, the 2024 vintage presents itself highly concentrated, dense, and finely silky, with masterfully integrated botrytis. The structure is taut to the limit, while the laser-sharp acidity is perfectly encased by the dense texture. The mineral backbone is excellently pronounced, the balance impeccable, and the finish extends for minutes – a GRAND wine that combines character, precision, and elegance at the highest level and will undoubtedly age enchantingly for many decades.

The clear crystals in your wine are tartrate crystals. These crystals form through the crystallization of potassium bitartrate, a natural component of wine that can form during the aging process. Tartrate crystals are completely harmless and do not affect the taste or quality of the wine. You can simply let the crystals settle and pour carefully, or remove them by decanting.
